We have three different levels of SkinMedica® chemical peels to help you achieve your specific beauty goals. Illuminize Peel® (a.k.a. the “Red Carpet Peel”) targets mild skin imperfections — and because it’s the gentlest of the trio, makes for a great glow-and-go treatment or introduction for first timers. Vitalize Peel® is deeper than the Illuminize, addressing 3 layers of skin to target sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, and uneven skin tone. Rejuvenize Peel™ is our strongest option: it addresses five layers of skin to improve the appearance of overall sun damage, lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, skin texture, and post-acne marks.

What to Expect
The first step is your free consultation.
If you’re interested in chemical peels, one of our consultants will work with you on understanding your skin type and beauty goals. Then, we’ll discuss options specific to your needs.
Adhering to pre- and post-care instructions is crucial. Reference the below as needed but follow your Med Pro’s specific guidelines following your treatment.
Before Treatment
Avoid hair removal in the treatment area.
Avoid any products containing retinol, AHAs, BHAs, benzoyl peroxide, plus exfoliating products that may be dry or irritating.
During Treatment
Treatments take about 30 minutes each.
Expect tingling sensations during the treatment; initial discomfort typically subsides in a few minutes.
You’ll be provided with a handheld fan during your treatment to make you as comfortable as possible.
After Treatment
For the first 24 hours, avoid all sun exposure and strenuous exercise (including any activities that will make you sweat). Wait until the morning to wash your face with a gentle cleanser.
Never pick or pull at skin if or when your skin peels. (Peeling varies depending on the type of treatment received.)
After 48 hours and for the next week after your peel, continue avoiding sun exposure. Apply a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher throughout the day. Use moisturizer as often as needed to relieve dryness.
Wait until any skin sensitivity is resolved before having any other procedures in the treatment area including facials, microdermabrasion, hair removal (like Laser Hair Removal and shaving), and injections (including injectable fillers). Do not wax the treatment area for 2 weeks post Illuminize Peel®, 3-4 weeks post Vitalize Peel®, and 4-6 weeks post Rejuvenize Peel™.

What is a chemical peel?
- A chemical peel is a skin-rejuvenation treatment that uses a pro-grade chemical exfoliating solution to renew skin. The peel removes the outer layers and encourages healthy skin cell turnover to reveal a brighter, smoother, and more even-toned complexion.
How do chemical peels work?
- Chemical peels remove the outer layers of skin. In doing so, healthy skin cell turnover is encouraged to reveal a brighter, smoother, and more even-toned complexion.
With Illuminize Peel®, most clients notice visible improvements within 24 hours and experience little to no visible peeling. Because Vitalize Peel® and Rejuvenize Peel™ are more intensive treatments, mild to moderate peeling can start on your second day post treatment and can last 2 to 5 days.
Remember:
- Do not pick or pull the skin. Your skin must be allowed to peel at its own pace. Picking or pulling the skin could result in scarring or hyperpigmentation.
- Follow your post-procedure instructions carefully. Avoid all sun exposure after the peel is applied. Starting the following day and throughout the peeling process, use a gentle moisturizer to control the peeling. You must actively apply sunscreen (during the peeling process and for at least 1 week) post peel. This is crucial in making sure you get the best possible results.

Are chemical peels painful?
- Reactions tend to vary based on your tolerance level. Tingling to burning sensations are normal and can be expected, but you’ll be provided with a handheld fan during your treatment to make you as comfortable as possible. Initial discomfort typically subsides in a few minutes.
For some, those sensations may last up to one to two hours. If burning persists for more than two hours, please contact the clinic to be connected with a medical professional.
Are there side effects or downtime?
- Downtime and peeling vary based on the type of peel you get. The Illuminize Peel® requires no downtime, and most clients experience little to no visible peeling. Minimal downtime can be expected with Vitalize Peel® and Rejuvenize Peel™, with mild to moderate peeling starting on the second day after your treatment and continuing for the next 2 to 5 days. Strict sun avoidance on the day of your peel and sun avoidance with continuous application of sunscreen for post-peel days 1 through 7 are crucial.
What results can I expect with a chemical peel?
- After your skin is fully healed, expect skin that looks healthy, fresh, and bright — with noticeable improvements in skin tone and texture.
