What to Expect
The first step is your free consultation.
If you’re interested in microneedling, one of our consultants will work with you on understanding your needs. Then, we’ll create a treatment plan that best supports your beauty goals.
Adhering to pre- and post-care instructions is crucial. Reference the below as needed but follow your Med Pro’s specific guidelines following your treatment.
Before Treatment
For 24 hours prior to treatment: avoid sun exposure/burns, discontinue use of topical retinoids, and avoid autoimmune therapies.
If the skin on your face or treatment area is irritated (e.g., sunburns, open wounds, sores) the day before your appointment, please contact our clinic to reschedule.
Wait at least 6 months to receive microneedling treatments following isotretinoin (Accutane) use.
During Treatment
Your appointment will last about 50 minutes, but the actual treatment will take about 30 minutes.
Topical numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area 20 minutes prior to your session. This will help make sure you’re as comfortable as possible during the process.
After Treatment
Immediately after and up to 24 hours post treatment:
- Treatment area will appear red and flushed, like a moderate sunburn. Tightness and mild sensitivity can be expected.
- For the first 24 hours, cleanse the treatment area only with warm water — no soaps.
- Do not apply product to the area unless it is explicitly recommended by your provider. Re-apply as needed, up to 24 hours post treatment.
- Avoid all sun exposure for the first 24 hours. Sunscreen cannot be used, so strict sun avoidance is imperative.
- Makeup should not be worn on the treatment area during those first 24 hours post treatment.
After the first 24 hours and in the days post treatment:
- Treatment area may be pink and mildly inflamed, like a mild sunburn.
- Use the Neocutis® Neo Restore Mask to help soothe skin and boost results.
- Use a gentle cleanser to wash the treatment area.
- Return to a regular skincare regimen. For best results, follow the medical-grade routine recommended by your provider.
- Resume wearing sunscreen. Continue to actively wear sunscreen and minimize sun exposure for at least 1 week.
- Avoid products with acids (like AHAs and BHAs) for the first 72 hours.
- Avoid strenuous exercise and activities that can cause excessive perspiration for the first 72 hours.

What is microneedling?
- Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment for skin rejuvenation that requires little to no downtime. It’s clinically proven to jumpstart your body’s natural skin-healing processes to boost collagen production. Improvements can be seen in skin tone, texture, radiance, and bounce.
How should microneedling series be purchased?
- If you’re interested in prejuvenation, a series of 3 treatments spaced over 3-4 months is ideal. This is also the recommended timing for maintenance treatments once therapeutic results are achieved.
For fine lines and dull skin, or a general revitalization of skin, a series of 3-6 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart is appropriate.
For acne scarring, a series of 6 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart is appropriate.
How does microneedling work?
- Micro-channels are created in the skin to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes, triggering collagen production — which results in naturally smoother and more even, youthful-looking skin.
These regenerative effects help to re-zero the aging clock, giving skin a more youthful starting point. Regular maintenance treatments can help to maintain results.

Is microneedling painful?
- No; a topical numbing cream will be applied to help make this a comfortable procedure.
Are there side effects or downtime?
- Your skin may look slightly pink to red, similar to how it might appear after a mild to moderate sunburn, immediately after your microneedling treatment. Rest assured, this is normal and tends to subside within 24 to 72 hours. During this time, some clients may experience redness, itching, peeling, dryness, or tenderness while skin heals.
