For at least 4 weeks prior to treatment:
- Stay out of the sun including tanning beds and self-tanning creams or sprays
- We cannot treat anyone with a tan or sunburn
For at least 2 weeks prior to treatment:
- Avoid using Retin-A products in the area to be treated
Within 24 hours of treatment:
- Shave the area to be treated
- We can do a little touch up but shaving large areas is best done in the comfort of your home.
- Do not wax, tweeze or use hair removal creams at any time during treatment
On the day of treatment:
- Do NOT wear makeup or skincare products on the treatment area
- Any products on the skin must be thoroughly removed prior to treatment
- If a numbing cream was prescribed:
- Apply a pea sized amount of cream to the treatment area 60-90 minutes prior to treatment and rub in thoroughly
- Numbing cream should be used sparingly
- Numbing cream should not be applied to multiple large areas on the same day and may only be applied to ONE of the following areas:
- Thighs (bilateral)
- Lower legs (bilateral)
- Back
- Chest
- Arms (bilateral)
- If applying numbing cream to one of the above areas DO NOT use it on any other body area on the same treatment date.
- Other areas not requiring numbing cream may be treated on the same day
- Do NOT cover the area with the numbing cream with gause, tape, or any kind of a dressing
- This prescription should last for most or all of your treatments
- Pregnant and nursing mothers cannot use numbing cream
- Inform us of any pre-existing heart conditions
- Attire:
- Most procedures will allow for some or all clothing to remain on
- If disrobing is required, you will be given a gown
- If your bikini line is being treated, wear a narrow cut panty or swimsuit
- Arrival:
- Please be on time for your appointment
- We reserve the right to re-schedule your appointment if you are late or have not complied with the pre-treatment instructions
- Please make arrangements for child care
- Children are not permitted in the laser rooms
The hair shedding process takes 14 days on average.
For best results:
- Use SPF 30+ with Zinc Oxide and/or Titanium Dioxide daily
- Exfoliate skin (after redness and tenderness has subsided)
- Follow a good skin care regimen
For the next 24-48 hours AVOID:
- Use of Retin-A or similar products that could cause skin irritation
- If your skin is irritated from the laser we recommend waiting until your skin returns to normal before resuming Retin-A use
- Sweating, hot water, hot tubs, saunas, swimming pools, vigorous exercise or other activities that cause skin flushing
- Shaving the treatment area
In between your treatments AVOID:
- Any procedures to the treatment area (2 weeks before and after your treatment)
- Use of Retin-A or similar products that could cause skin irritation
- These products should be stopped at least 2 weeks prior to your next treatment
- Direct Sun exposure
- For a minimum of 4 weeks prior to treatment
- Tweezing, waxing or hair removal creams
After treatment slight redness and a mild sunburn sensation in the treatment area is normal.
- Take Tylenol (acetaminophen) as needed for pain.
- Apply Vitamin E or Aloe Vera to help soothe and calm the treatment area.
- Hydrocortisone cream can be applied to decrease itch.
- If symptoms persist for more than 48 hours, call the clinic to speak with a medical professional.
